My Name Is Mallory

The Salty Cod: A bakery? Travel book? Food magazine? Photo studio? Private catering company? Collection of random and sometimes overly lyrical prose? Yes and no to it all. Salty Cod is not a food blog, it is not a travel blog, it is not an expat blog, it is simply a Salty blog.

But why cod? The cod is an amazing fish. It allows for the discovery of worlds that at one time were impossible to reach. Once upon a time it ruled the world. And it still does in a small way, on its invisible fishing line. The cod is my guardian angel. Albeit a smelly, guardian angel. The salty little cod has changed my life in more ways than can fit on this blog.

We are simply a traveling home. We meaning, me, myself and our editor. No matter where i am, Salty is there with me. Travel, food, random daily life; i cannot contain him to a single genre. Salty was born in June 2007, and since has led me by his fishing line to more places than i ever imagined i would see, and through more experiences i could have ever forecasted. Our path has led from Seattle, to Paris, to adventures through Europe, to a Brazilian, to a change in my view on life, to Spokane, to graduate university, to working with a Food and Wine Magazine, to jumping on a plane and getting off in Brazil to run after a boy like in a movie, to marriage and finally to a resident visa in my passport. Brazil is where we now call our home, and my 24 year old life is just getting started. As i like to say, the cod made me do it.

I am a freelance writer and photographer with BAs in history and French language. Not the most usefull degrees for trying to be a photographer in Portuguese speaking Brazil, but without them i wouldn't be here. If you are in Brazil and are interested in my photos or in hiring me for an event, visit my photography website at malloryelise.com for contact information.

Se você está no Brasil e quer comprar meus fotos ou quer me contratar para um evento, vai au meu site de fotografia, malloryelise.com, para informações de contato.

i am not a preacher, but this is what i have learned to follow: 1) Everything can be explained, expressed, and learned through food. 2) No one can tell you the rules on how to be happy except you. 3) There isn't always an explanation, so deal with it. 4) The unexpected can have a tremendous impact on the course of your life, so don't be afraid, and stop running from it. 5) You can't just think about it, if you don't try, then you will never know if it could have been.
