The Salty Cod: A Bakery? Travel agency? Food Magazine? Private catering company? Collection of random and sometimes overly lyrical prose? All of them, though maybe not all physically. Only in the head of its writer; a wandering glutton for culture, wine, tropical fruit, anything made with tapioca, and of course, cod. The cod is an amazing fish. At one time it ruled the world, it still does in a small way. It leads me by a thin line-- whatever it is you read or see on this blog; it is all somehow connected to the ugly fish.I'm a photographer for a newspaper, an editor of a university journal, an editorial assistant (i.e. photographer, writer, blogger, restaurant-sleuth) for a Spokane food and wine magazine, oh yeah and I am currently in my final year of undergraduate study as a history major at Gonzaga University. I speak French. I pretend I speak Portuguese, and I bet I can run faster than you. I want to write. I love to write. Travel, like writing and running, is my drug. When Bourdain finally kicks it, I’m taking over. I have lived a year outside of my country, and I plan to live many more outside of it.
I have realized that there is not enough time to be shy, if you miss it, you miss it. I'm a preacher and my sermon is this: 1) Everything can be explained, expressed, and learned through food. 2) No one can tell you the rules on how to be happy except you. 3) There isn't always an explanation, so deal with it. 4) The unexpected can have a tremendous impact on the course of your life, so don't be afraid, and stop running from it. 5) You can't just think about it, if you don't try, then you will never know if it could have been. My favorite words at present are these: Chouette, Cidade, and Yadda. Always yadda. So there.
